[QUOTE=Tom1983;9967768]1: Getting away from being ruled by the Human Rights Brigade
2: Getting away from the political correctness brigade
I couldn't agree more with the above comments , we have become a spineless , politically correct gone mad society So much so that all that is bad in our village, town, city or community, is who the goverment helps ....bad behaviour ,oh lets throw lots of money and do gooders at that problem person/family , in schools . bad behaved kids get all sorts of rewards whilst the ones who work hard and get on , get nothing ...welcome to Hell oops I mean England ....

Re: Your top reasons for choosing NZ?
I think it was a case of Gullibles Travels and our imagination and itchy feet got the better of us.
We just fancied doing something different - it's certainly that.
We imagined holidays and weekends in Australia and the Pacific - yeah right, epic fail.
We imagined we would enjoy a more laid-back lifestyle - yeah right, didn't quite think that one through.
We imagined that the weather would be better - yeah right, I think that was just a typo should have said wetter not better.
We imagined that the 'lifestyle' opportunites would compensate for lower wages - yeah right, whatever!

This is turning into a hilarious thread!
BJ- Gullibles Travels Please write a book called that!
But the funny award goes to the poster who moved to NZ to escape the "Human Rights Brigade" Oh my word, tears are rolling down my cheeks- who's going to burst this poster's bubble and point out to him he's living in NEW ZEALAND, not NORTH KOREA, so he must have filled in the wrong form at some point Way too funny.
And then there's the idea that moving to NZ is good because one escapes The Guardian AND the Daily Mail. This is brilliant- so far I've only found The Herald worthy of being used to pick up dog crap, and even then slightly self consciously so.
I'd just love to know what it was about NZ that appealed to Tom1983. G'wam, Tom, please?

Re: Your top reasons for choosing NZ?
I'm glad my rant has given you all a laugh!
Real reason for coming here, job. I'd been made redundant for the 4th time and the offer I had out here was not working for a financial company. All my jobs back in the UK have been with banks or trading firms and the job in Christchurch was getting away from it all. Both my partner and I needed a fresh start since losing positions thanks to job cuts is very demotivating.
Working for a non financial company is a relief out here.
We did no research at all, I just thought let's take a gamble and apply for jobs abroad. I had interviews for positions in Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Took this one because of the location, being in a city getting rebuilt excited me. I can't wait till the build is complete

A good thing about NZ was not being forced to reverse park in corporate car parks as we had to in the UK, imagine my horror at visiting a building site today only to be told off for not reverse parking! It is now company policy to reverse park at all Fulton Hogan sites. Fortunately my company still don't care, we're still way behind the UK for PC crap.
I remember being severely chastised in the BP offices in Aberdeen for not holding the handrail whilst traversing the stairs, god forbid when they bring that in over here!

Re: Your top reasons for choosing NZ?
Why o why do people give the weather as a reason?
You move to Australia for better weather, you move to South Africa for better weather, Florida, Thailand etc etc
I have many years experience of NZ weather and it's not that much better than the UK, in some areas the rainfall is much higher, for instance the South and East of England are extremely dry compared to anywhere. The west coast of NZ is the second wettest place on earth! London has lower annual rain compared to Auckland and as many sunny days.
I was in NZ in Dec and Jan this year, the weather was awful, all over the country, floods in sunny Nelson, grey miserable and chilly for summer. It was even warmer in London than Wellington on NYE!
Come on people, stop trying make out the weather in NZ is far superior and a reason to move 18,000 kms! It might be a degree or two warmer on average but it is not hot and sunny more than any other small island who's weather is dictated by the oceans.

Re: Your top reasons for choosing NZ?
London has been sunny and mild all March, in fact the last few days have been very warm, Feb too was pretty clear too, people have been on the beach sunbathing today all around the country!
In fact March and April in the UK has been very mild the last few years. Some people forget this and only focus on the wet weekend they may have had in August.
Stop kidding yourself that moving to NZ for the weather is a good reason. If you believe this you are probably in denial and its some desperate way of justifying being there.
If a better climate is really what you want then move to Australia.

'New Zealand consists of two main islands - North and South - together with some small offshore islands. It is situated between 34° and 47°S in the South Pacific and has an area a little larger than the United Kingdom. Situated 2,400 km/1,500 mi east southeast of Australia, in the belt of disturbed westerly winds, it has a very equable maritime climate more like that of western Britain than that of Portugal, with which it can be compared in latitude.'
