you know when its coming into winter

Re: you know when its coming into winter
I used to work loads of unpaid overtime our first few years in our UK house as it was so blooming cold. Then we put in radiators, insultion, double glazed windows and wood burning stoves.
We've already decided we'd rather have a house half the size and self build to have these things again than buy a standard, bigger NZ house with none of them.

When you hear a kiwi say it's cold and it's still in double figures lol by 11am
( I know cold when .. I step out the front door and my nose freezes on the second breath I take )

I often have deja vu moments of being the rebellious teen or a twelve year old trying to get out house to the school disco in winter. OMG, you're not going without a coat, you'll catch your death.
They need to try playing hockey on frozen pitch in a gym slip, to know what cold really is. LOL

Re: you know when its coming into winter
Last winter in my rented shed was so dire that I started ridiculously over-paying my leccy bill pot. I am running the heatpump 24/7 and a tower fan heater in the lounge to boost (heatpump is in the hall so does bedrooms and almost stretches to living area). Bill for May was $220, doubtless will be the same for June, July, and August. But seeing as I am essentially throwing away >$20K a year to live in this shed, I figure just as well spend an extra $1k and not feel utterly wretched. Much less condensation.
