YAY A JOB AT LAST

YAY A JOB AT LAST
After what seems likes a year (since Feb this year really!!) I have been actively looking for work and applying for jobs that I am qualified for only to be given the heave ho for some kiwi or other totally inexperienced because they don't have to pay them as much or maybe they won't whinge about the job LOL! It has been very despondent at times as other folks on here know only too well to be given the brush off all the time. Good job the OH got a job quickly!
Anyway, I saw a job advertised on Saturday and I applied for it, got the interview yesterday and started today so just thought I would share that bit of news with you all and to those of you ladies still searching to supplement the income of your OH's don't give up. Something will come along soon. I get to work mornings and have afternoons off so that is a bonus too. Only thing is I have to go into Chch but the traffic was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be this morning and was there in 35/40 mins so was pleased with that time scale. Going to leave at a different time tomorrow to see if I can cut any off that time. Doubt it though. May be better in the school hols with not so many taking kids in to school.

Working in an alternative medicine practice. I get to learn about flower remedies and essences and stuff like that. Great calming music played and candles are lit and all is calm and serene. Going to be learning lots more about Meditations, Connecting with higher beings etc. Very very alternative which really appeals to me. Makes my heart sing with joy. I always wanted a job where I would WANT to go to work LOL!

WELL DONE SHIRL!!!!
Soooo pleased for you. Sounds a lovely place to work. How did your first day go? Hope they don't stock the smoko room with the same kind a 'special' tea leaves like they sell in Glastonbury?

Well done Shirl.
My youngest has been looking for a job since Feb, must have put in excess of 100 CV's and cover letters as well as applying online with no Joy at all, only 2 replies saying sorry not selected for interview. A lot of positions do say Kiwi experience required, but even the Kiwi's new to the job can't get experience if already required. Think it's preference to employ Kiwi's, sure it's illegal.
Contacted YMCA for assistance, interview at college to see if they could help with job search but couldn't as he is already doing everything they would have suggested so they checked his CV and gave it the OK.
One he put in for he rang to chase up and was told they were looking for a female.
Really disheartening for the poor lad as he is not making friends at all, has no-one to go out with, no one to talk too, it's no life for a 19 year old. He left a good position with a full active social life.

Thanks Mandie. Yes they do have those herbal teas and they are quite nice - don't really have time to have a proper break but I am only there for 3 hours a day so don't really expect to have one.

Re: YAY A JOB AT LAST
Yes I had been looking since Feb. Must have applied for loads and loads even the Agencies seem biased against brits. He has to think that it is their loss not his and I am sure something will come along for him soon. It must be awful for him not having any friends at his age. I am keeping my fingers crossed something comes up for him soon. Perhaps he should look in an area he has no experience in and then they can pay him less money and train him up!! seems to be the kiwi train of thought!!
He's looking at all and any jobs advertised, applied Woolworth x 4 and followed up with 2 letters, he doesn't care where his first job is as long as he gets one he figures he can carry on applying for what he wants.

Re: YAY A JOB AT LAST
That's sad Pauline. Poor lad. How about a bit of voluntary work? I know it doesn't pay and isn't what he wants but it would get him out and about and socialising and as everyone knows here, its who not what you know. Get him out networking via voluntary work and someone he comes across will have a next door neighbours brothers uncle who is looking for someone just like him to employ!
I know something will eventually turn up, but it is difficult watching him vegetate, he was a social animal and had a large group of friends, loves talking.
