x box compatability.
E.O.I's in. Starting application for residency. House sale or rather Auction looks positive. Now for the serious stuff. If my boy gets a new X.Box in the u.k. is it compatable with N.Z. games etc. Does anyone know?

I assume you are talking about XBox360 rather than an Xbox.
Its a little hit and miss with the X360, some games are region locked some wont be.
NZ is region code 4 where as UK is 2

Games are PAL and work, but DVD regions differ as with any DVD player.

So far our UK 360 is working fine as a dvd player with NZ dvds. No games have been bought here though, so I can't tell you if they will work. You might want to hang on and get one in Singapore or HK if your comming over that way as it will be cheaper and they can sell you one for the correct zone (or chip it for you!).

Maybe the DVD's are like many and have both regions?

Theoretically could she not just bring the xbox with her and it should be able to play the UK's regionally encoded games and DVDs?

The games are not regionally coded they are PAL specification, the DVD's are regionally coded and yes you could play PAL UK ones and any here that are dual PAL regions as many are.

Re: x box compatability.
I've just asked my 18 yr old gaming geek son who brought his xbox360 over with him.
he said it will play all uk dvd's and about 50% of nz dvd's although there is no way
of telling which nz ones will play and which wont.
It will play any game from europe, australia and nz but not american or japanese market
games as they use a different system.
It connects to Xbox live ok and online gaming is fine just like the uk as long as
you get a decent broadband connection which can be a little hit and miss
in nz but they are working hard to get full broadband coverage nationwide.
so yes by all meens bring it and you should have no problems.
Kepp your reciept and details of where and when you bought it. if you get the dreaded "red rings" which is a common Xbox fault you can contact microsoft nz
who will then pay for shipping both ways and repair it for free as it has a 3 yr "red ring" warranty.

Thanks for letting us know. I was afraid we'd have to stock up on games before we relocated and they ain't cheap.
