Wills and emigrating
Hi all, I've tried searching in the forum to see if there are other threads on this but can't find any that directly answer my questions... wondering if anyone here has experience of this:
I thought my husband and I should have a will in place before we emigrate. Solicitor has questioned whether we need one in the UK, or just one in NZ. My understanding from googling is that we will need one in both countries.
Is this true? We will still have finances (house) in the UK when we move over initially, but when the time comes that we want to buy in NZ we will need to sell this and so all our finances will be in NZ.
Does anyone have any advice to give, or reference sources to point me at so I can try and research further. Solicitor says I need a lawyer who has experience in both UK and NZ law to be able to advise me, but I am struggling to find any of those

My understanding is You will need a Will in NZ, just for the fact that you need a Resident or Citizen to act as guardian for any children or for finances if anything happens for the time it will take for anyone you have nominated in the UK gets here to take control

As said, a will in the primary place of residence (and an executor in the same country) makes sense. My daughter (corporate lawyer) just made me add after..chattels and property 'wheresoever situated' to cover UK assets.
