Why is it.....
How can australia be such a vibrant colourful place full of vibrant colourful people
yet NZ is full washed out people with little opinion on anything. How did nz fall so far behind oz when they were basically starting from the same point at the same time. australians know how good australia is yet kiwis try to convince themselves that nz is not as bad as they know it is. What went wrong with this place:confused: |
Re: Why is it.....
theres nothing really "wrong" with the place we just need a lot more people and a lot more competition evry major industry is a monopoly here :frown:

I'm sure that one of the reasons is that Australia doesn't really care where you're from as long as you're prepared to muck-in and become "Aussie." It's very much one nation, unlike NZ which is markedly bi-cultural and tends to treat outsiders (and their ways) with reticence. As to vibrancy - I'm sure the better weather has got a lot to do with it, sunshine and warmth makes such a difference to people's disposition. |
Re: Why is it.....
Given a choice I would have liked to have tried NZ first but I happened to knock-up an Aussie bird on holiday.
Doing a couple of weeks in NZ is very appealing, not sure about living, like Genesis I'd try Tazzy first ... that kind of pace suits me lovely. Warmth is nice but brain-stifling humidity is less so ... I suffer Brisbane summers for the kind of weather we have now. Yeh, some of Oz is vibrant and shiny and outdoorsy and welcoming and all that but we have our fair share of problem areas even in the sunshine ... |
Re: Why is it.....
Every place has them, the knack is to get the balance right for you.
A place doesn't have to be perfect (nowhere is) just better for you personally at that particular moment in your life. That's why it's so important not to burn bridges - as your circumstances change it's important to have as many options still open to you as possible, closing them down isn't a good idea. Perhaps that is why Australia succeeds - there are simply more options available? |

If I was a young kiwi I would do one to Oz..no doubt about it. But for me my wife and our current circumstances NZ and Palmy will do just fine for now. It is a compromise of course as most agree the lives of us little people are normally flecked with the latter. |

Re: Why is it.....
How can australia be such a vibrant colourful place full of vibrant colourful people - Sounds like Disney Land
yet NZ is full washed out people with little opinion on anything. - Also translates to relaxed people who dont sound like yanks How did nz fall so far behind oz when they were basically starting from the same point at the same time. - Sounds like a numbers issue what is attracting me to NZ is the lack of numbers tbh australians know how good australia is yet kiwis try to convince themselves that nz is not as bad as they know it is.- Australians think that Oz is good and expect everyone else too also. I know a few who work with me in the UK and im fed up of hearing how good it is. I like my version better :D Perhaps when/If i do move all of the above will be proved to be the mindless ramblings of a sad deluded dreamer and i may hate the place :D |
Re: Why is it.....
A while ago there was a discussion on the radio about the benefits to each country of joining together.
The outcome was we could give them water and some dairy produce and they could give us everything else. |
Re: Why is it.....
You sure the grass is greener in Oz? I heard it was very dry.:) Why don't you try somewhere like Singapore, Dubai or New York? Very vibrant I hear and they pay lots too!
Or, if you're after the sand and the nightlife, I hear it's buzzing in Ibiza. The bars and fast food joints in London aren't just full of travelling Kiwis, they're full of travelling Aussies too. I can't stand London and don't understand why anyone in their right mind would want to live there except to earn more money - it obviously attracts many people and has a population big enough to support its infrastructure. Each to his own I guess. Seriously though Colandros, I don't have a problem with anything you're saying, but I don't understand why, if you're attracted by the bright city lights and a high disposable income that you chose to go to NZ in the first place? I've seen no Kiwi propaganda that says come to NZ to earn big bucks and live life in the fast lane. The only propaganda I've seen is come to NZ because it's unspoilt and attractive and full of friendly locals. (which is admittedly debateable, but that's a different issue!) WP |

[QUOTE=Expat Kiwi;8695017]What an excellent set of questions.
I'm sure that one of the reasons is that Australia doesn't really care where you're from as long as you're prepared to muck-in and become "Aussie." QUOTE] There have been a number of attacks on Asians recently in OZ. Not sure if they were trying to become Aussie or not but they were attacked because of where they came from. Of course, that's not specific to Oz but IMO I don't think they are any more welcoming or accepting than any other country. |

Re: Why is it.....
A Kiwi offered me what he termed "sound NZ advice".........If you are a City boy and look for manufactured entertainment then do not think about NZ as a home cos here you have to make your own! ;)
