White Cars
Now, it may be just me, but are there so many more white cars in NZ than I've seen in any other country??? Is it a fav colour (expect that should be black!) or are the white ones the ones the Japanese don't want....

Re: White Cars
Try touching or getting into a black car after it has been sitting out in the NZ summer sun for a few hours and you may go some way towards answering your own question
I think silver is the most popular colour in UK - fine until you need to do a paint repair and find how difficult two-coat metallic paints are to match

Re: White Cars
White has apparently overtaken silver as the most popular car colour in the US.
Besides, nothing wrong with white cars.
Cheeky young whipper-snapper *grumble grumble*
And yes I did have to look outside and check what colour my car is.

Re: White Cars
Although I struggle to remember what type of car I drive, I DO know it's silver. I thought that was the most common colour in New Zealand {not that I'm common mind.........}

Re: White Cars
The Japanese love white cars (there are a number of theories why this is so) and the Kiwis love second-hand Japanese cars imported straight from Japan.
Case closed.

Southern Europeans seem to like white as well....
Red does not stand up well to the sun, just compare panel fade on solid red Fords and Holdens.....

Re: White Cars
White reflects the sunshine?
In Japan's case the three main theories are....a) White shows up dirt easily and the Japanese like to know when things get dirty. b) One of the car companies over-produced white cars in the early 1990's and dumped them on the Japanese market...making white cars seem like the accepted choice of car colour. c) Gangsters tend to drive black cars, so white cars are for nice people.
Or a mixture of the three...

Re: White Cars
There's a 4th theory - Japanese culture looks down upon being brash or standing out from the crowd; It's all about harmony and cohesion.
This is reflected in the people's choice of car colours - White is popular because it is perceived not to stand out* and seen as being a calm and peaceful colour.
However as Japanese culture absorbs more Western trends the number of new White cars being sold though still in the majority, are on the decline.
*In the West, the inverse would probably be true.
