when to buy flights??
Have been keeping an eye on flight prices over the last few months....haven't applied for eoi yet as looking to leave around August 2013.
However, have noticed that flights (one way) bought in advance are about £860 (Qantas) but a couple of months before leaving brings them down to £707 (via Singapore stopover for 2 weeks).
Has anyone left buying their flights until a couple of months before departure or do you all buy them as soon as possible??
There will be 4 of us so would save almost £640 at present prices!
Any advice??
Lydia

Hi Lydia,
If you use kayak.co.uk to find a fare then in the 'toolbox' on the left of the results screen is 'show fare charts' which shows how the best price for the journey has changed over the last 90 days.
On a kind of similar topic do you know of any good sites for finding stand-by prices - if they still exist.
John.

I've only been looking at Qantas as we have 40,000 points to use, OH prefers them and it has to be on the A380......talk about being restricted!!

We flew Qantas A380 Premium Economy on our way back from NZ far better than the 747-400 we had going.

My son flew to ChCh on 19th April this year (on Singapore) and I booked his flight on 15th. £614.00 on A380 to Singapore then on a 777 to ChCh with a 1 hour 50 min transfer in Singapore. Whole journey from take off to landing 24 hours 20 mins.

We booked Singapore airlines 6 months in advance but prices stayed the same. Immigration always tell you not to book flights before your visa comes through. We had booked one way but when our visa hadn't arrived we changed them to return or, apparently you may not be allowed to travel! Our visas were approved 3 days after we arrived!! £65 per ticket cancellation fees - we'd already booked a holiday home this end so didnt lose too much. Singapore airlines fab, daughter didn't want to get off! Singapore airport fab for stopover too. Good Luck

Forgot to say, click on the actual aircraft type - it then gives you a seat map, showing best seats and worst seats.

Just over a week ago we had flights on hold with Emirates but had to let them go (we're flying out 19th July). When we tried to book again this week they'd gone up £1000.00! You'd think the nearer the departure date you book, the cheaper the flight will be - not so. If possible, book in plenty of time. Unfortunately, we had to leave it till the last minute (long story) but at least we're on our way now!
