What would you do?

What would you do?
Not actually sold our house but am starting to think down the line.....
At the moment our plan is to go to my In Laws in Nelson when we first arrive, the hubster will then look for work (Software engineer) this will then decide where we look to live. High chance that it could be Auckland or Welly. Needless to say we both would ideally like to live in Tauranga
So, I am now starting to worry about where we send our container
Scenario 1:We delay container here in the UK until we are settled (any ideas how much that would be?).
Scenario 2: We send container to Welly and store there, then transport when settled (any cheaper than UK?)
Scenario 3:Hubster to fly over to NZ to secure job? would this be an unnecessary expense? Most on here seem to secure work this way
Any offers of advice/ experiences gratefully appreciated
Thank you

As you know we're not sending a whole container, just some boxes & a crate and at first we thought Auckland was going to the destination we needed if we settled in BoP or BoI, we would collect from AKL, but now been looking at Nelson !! Never visited but will in February.....prepared to fall in love .....again!!!
Will check out with Shippers how much more it would cost for them to deliver to Nelson if stuff shipped to Auckland just in case, but they're closed till 4th Jan.
Big Hugs B x
Will be interesting to hear what others would do given your 3 scenarios.

Re: What would you do?
I don't know about storage costs in the Uk but a few thoughts:
If it was me I should like my possessions at least in the same country as me, even if they are in storage - just me being a girlie
I thought our storage costs with Crown in NZ were amazingly cheap (something like less than $50 a week for a 20 foot container but I can't recall properly).
If you get your stuff in, it can be clearing MAF etc while you are already there.
So it would be scenario 2 for me

The company we used held our belongings for a month, free of charge, prior to shipping over to NZ. This was very handy as, including shipping,it meant we had almost a 3 month head start before our gear caught up with us. By which times we had found work/place to live. They were also the cheapest of the companies I contacted too .
If you would like their details- send me a PM. Hope this helps.
PS - forgot to mention- they will happily hold your belongings at Welly or Auckland for a nominal sum until you have a forwarding address. All you need is a hotel or family address for Customs purposes.

Re: What would you do?
Until it shipped, we were paying PSS approx £220 per month to hold our belongings in storage... on top of this we then had to pay around £65 per month to extend the insurance whilst it is in storage... bear this in mind.. often the insurance policies covering your goods for the journey will not cover any extended storage period by default.
