What dya reckon.....
This story appeared in our local paper on Friday.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/marlboroughex...5327a6563.html I have to say, after living here for a year and speaking to other expats, it's about time someone actually came out and said it. :D Is this just a problem in Marlborough or is it representitive of the whole of NZ |
Re: What dya reckon.....
Perhaps firms need to attract back some of the Kiwis living abroad?

Re: What dya reckon.....
In my dept, more than two thirds are migrants, as all the Kiwis' are leaving in search of money! I said goodbye to another on Friday as he and his wife are heading to the UK...

Re: What dya reckon.....
Recruiting people from the UK rather than increasing wages to attract locals seems a bit shortsighted....there must be some 'unnecessary' costs an employer incurs when bringing in staff from overseas from a higher wage market as well...surely said staff will not stay long-term when they find they can't manage?
I don't really understand why the laws of supply and demand don't come into play here...'pay peanuts get monkeys' and all that...short of staff, can't retain them? Increase wages/benefits. Work smarter not harder etc etc . |
