No green eyed monster here as I drive a big 4x4 which gets me places a merc cannot and when its parked on the drive its not to say this must be an exclusive area like you inferred with a merc .

Quote .

On the other hand it was great to park the car on the drive if you are selling the house - people would see the car and think...."must be a well off area - this is where I want to live!"
Actually, that's a thought! Maybe I should have started a rent-a-Merc business for house sellers. I could have made a mint. I knew I should have kept the bl**dy thing! .

No snobs here

Re: What do people drive!!!

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at Auto TV on saturday morning. OH and I sat gob agape at the adverts over our morning coffee as they moved from car lot to car lot extolling the virtues of some shyte car for in our opinion way too many $$$$$. I think the funniest and most regular selling point was that despite their age being well over 5 years or so, it was the 'new shape' what would that be then the 'new shape' in 1997.

It was quite an education driving on new zealand roads. My OH is a traffic cop and is not unknown to drive along the M4 at speeds of 150mph after some scrote.

To describe that people bumble along is an understatement. No one looks in their rear view mirrors and in my OH opinion the standard of driving is very poor. (I kept having to tell him to chill out)

The funniest thing, when we attended to Police Recruitment briefing, was the recruiting officer telling the gathered crowd his reasons for joining, and how it made him feel driving in a pursuit at 120kph, the assembled agthering gasped in awe, OH nearly choked on his coffee.

I drive a much crapper version of this car, mine is a H REG 1.4 merit petrol

http://www.mamut.com/homepages/Swede..._astra_gte.jpg

I love it got given it for free, it was me or rot on drive. Had been really well looked after by 1 owner. Starts perfect every time and I appreciate it so much after not having car for ages.

When I first passed my test I cared about what car I was seen in, now I simply don't care. I found myself defending it angrily when my partner's little brother was taking the piss out of it.

and oh yeah the boot is huge.

Bad points

Handling terrible-presume this is to do with suspension. It makes a crgrgrr sound when I go round a roundabout and someone is sat in passenger side!
Back windscreen wiper doesn't work
Is rusting over every wheel arch
MPG is awful
Radio doesn't work

Oh youn lucky bstrd you got a split screen camper, that is the exact camper I want when we arrive, but have been informed they are really expensive to run, parts etc. Is this true?

I will be joining the jap car club though as I drive a kitted mr2 turbo grey import in the UK and intend to buy another when I am in NZ, no cars match the reliability of japanese automobiles. I have ahad one for the last 3 years and nothing has gone wrong with it, and I take it down the strip fairly regulary, passes MOT's no probs.

My dream car though and I would love to import one to NZ is tvr sagaris I fully intend to get one in five years time.:) I can but dream.

Re: What do people drive!!!

hi

They are getting v. expensive to buy over here and harder to find, however, if u come with spare pounds to spend that may be different. If u are earning dollars, then one decent split screen sold for $23k and I am sure other ex-pats will agree that is getting a tad expensive.

Running costs no problem, spare parts, u need have contacts  but they are available, engine bits and panels, the camping interiors are very very rare.

We nearly sold ours before we moved out here and decided they day before the shippers came to take it.

We are so glad we did.
