What did you do for short term rental?
Hi BE's
Just wanted to get some feedback on what people did for short term rentals on arrival, and worked best etc. I appreciate some will have had relatives etc so stayed with them, we don't have that. But the Motels could be an option, but they don't look great standards. Finding short term let from the uk is difficult, but I have sent some emails off. Our funiture should ship tomorrow so we have about 8-10 weeks give or take until they arrive. Anyway just wondered what worked for everyone...
Cheers in advance..
Phil.

We did a holday rental for 3weeks, found a 6mth rental during that, container arrived while there then bought and moved at the end of the 6mths.
When in the unfurnished before the container arrived we bought some kitchen pieces (now used for picnics), slept on airbeds which doubed as sofas and dining table.

we were lucky, or unlucky depends on who you ask me or OH, that OH was out here staying with a some friends before me and the kids came out so managed to get a rental for 6mths. was lucky it was only 6mths as it was not the sort of place I would of wanted to stay in much longer than that. If you have someone here who could go look around for you that you trust to get you a halfway decent one that may be an idea or as Simonsi did get a holiday let and hope you secure one within that time.

We used Christchurch Accommodation. They are very professional and offer variety of short/long term rental. You can also check Trademe. There are many short-term furnished available. Holiday house is a great start, then you can take your time to look further.
We rented a house for 8 weeks from the owner who is away for vacation. It works out so well.
I wouldn't stay in any motel/hotel. It's way too expensive and not convenient for laundry and cooking home meals.

We stayed in a serviced apartment in the City for a couple of weeks before we found somewhere then lived 'minimally' until our furniture arrived. The apartment though was great and a not bad price given it had two bedrooms, washing and drying facilities, outdoor pool etc. It was a Waldorf apartment if you want to look it up.

We got 3 weeks in a pretty swish motel as part of the relo deal, then we went into a FF cheap holiday cabin (the weekly rate they offered us was not much more than renting a house and included all utilities, so was great but a little way out of town). After a few weeks in the holiday cabin we found an unfurnished rental and moved into that. It was another 4 weeks or so before our furniture arrived but we had predicted this and sold all our mattresses in the UK and bought new out here. We bought camping chairs and went to the charity shops to buy a plate, bowl, cup and spoon each and newly made chums lent us a couple of pans and some linen. We used folded up boxes for a sofa, so we had that stuff and the suitcases we came with- happy days with so little housework
It worked fine cos we came out in summer and moved to Hawkes Bay so it was hot and sunny. We also allowed the kids to use their newly bought scooters in the house (wooden floored and built so you could do laps in it) until the furniture arrived, so they were happy too.

Mr BEVS came out before me & squatted down in a bunk house attached to a motel. Very interesting and educational it was too I am told.
During that time he checked out an assortment of rentals which would accept two cats and ......wife finally settling on an unfurnished one that had white ware & a fireplace , within walking distance of a few shops. As we arrived in Winter he was looking for one with heating which proved a bit hard to find at the time ( 8 yrs ago).
We did similar to BB, basically camping in the rental. The landlord was kind and did find us some bits and bobs to help us get by.
Even when the container arrived, we didn't unpack. We left that until we had decided on the area we might wish to live in.

Re: What did you do for short term rental?
we went with the Bookabach website, on it you can select just what you want, ie area, dogs, smoking, linen, pool, etc etc.
we chose a few then emailed to ask for a price for long term rent, (3/6 months) got prices back, chucked the expensive ones! and went with the best price, and responses.
we are renting a 3 bed hoiday bach with woodburner, electricity is extra, (100 bucks for a 5 week period ) but we have had the coldest few weeks! for 250 bucks a week.
I dont think its too bad. plus the dogs is allowed in the house, and funnily enough so are the kids
anymore info then pm me?
