Smile Wellington/Porirua Contacts

Hi I've recently moved from England to Porirua, Wellington September 2006 and wondered if others are finding it really difficult to settle here. I would really welcome some views, chats and even meeting people to help me try and get over this homesickness. Thanks a lot Aly

Not in the area at all but as no-one else had replied, thought I would. We moved late September too, now live in Hamilton. I haven't felt homesick but we moved about such a lot in the UK as Steve was in the RAF that I guess we are used to it.
Try starting a blog: it gets how you feel down in writing, may help to focus your thoughts. I write one so that my friends and relations know what we are up to, perhaps keeping them informed will help you to feel closer to them? They can add their comments too, makes it a bit more interactive.
There are get-togethers now and again, you could try and organise one yourself maybe?
Hope you start to feel better soon, Karma for your homesickness

Hi Aly - my son lives in Paremata, so I'm often out your way - would be delighted to have coffee and a chat - Boopy is just up the road from you in Papakowhai - we've been trying to arrange coffee in Porirua Mall - maybe you'd like to join us. You're welcome to PM me.

Loads of people feel homesick - is it anything in particular that is making it difficult for you to settle?

Hi would really love to meet up for coffee thank you very much. I guess I'm missing my friends and family but it also doesn't help I'm not enjoying my job. I'm a nurse but its very different out here which I expected it to be but not as different as it is. I'm on my own also which I guess makes it kinda difficult to socialise but I'd love to have coffee thank you.

Hi Aly - you definitely need to PM Boopy - she is a nurse and found it difficult at first - Brackley is also a nurse - she's in Karori, been here a few months.

Thanks for PM - will be in touch later - got to go to work.

Hi there Aly

We have just arrived in Wellington over a week ago. My boyfriend is originally from here which I guess that helps a little. Apart from his sister, I don't know anyone else but a few people on this website have been helpful i.e. boopy and minimad.

I would love to meet you for a coffee in Wellington as long as you don't mind my 10mth old tagging alongk. I've not had chance to get homesick .... just yet .....but I am sure it will hit me in the next few weeks!!
We can share the experience

Kerry

Hi Aly, just stumbled across your stuff you were writing in December about being homesick. I'm a physio and applying for jobs in NZ but am still in the uK. Hoping to be out in NZ in Feb. Have a friend who moved there in Nov and he's going to put me up for a bit. I think I'm getting a little bit homesick even before I've left the UK
I hope you're feeling better and starting to fit in.

Aly won't be here for the meet.

She finishes work next week and starts work in Middlesborough on 9th Feb.

She did have contacts and good work colleagues here, but it just isn't for her.
