Wellington
Off to Welly this weekend to see Dylan Moran, cannot wait. Been a couple of years since I last visited, so can anyone recommend any paricular bars, cafes, restaurants. Staying pretty central but won't have a car used to live in Welly but things change pretty rapidly. Thanks in advance....

A new cafe opend on the Terrace La Bella Italia (well it's not new though - but the food tastes much much better than the one in Petone)-- they do SERIOUSLY NICE Earl Grey to die for, Italian foods, beer, wines, and groceries - it's worth a try. I always meet mates there for a quick cuppa after work....... surely, I don't (have to) pay it for it!
Lunch: Espresso Republic (154 Featherston Street) - they still do great "fish of the day" - it a good price, LOTS of foods, and a good quality. - tasty enough.
Leuven does decent breaky & beer I think, Waffles are nice too.
Bars: I like St Johns and Malthouse.
Coffee: Clark's Cafe - awesome coffee - I am not a big fan of coffee with milk froth but even a Latte was super there - I had one last week!
and I suggest you go to Petone - the cafes are fantasitc too. We been there last weekend and had Seafood chowder! was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (hey, it wasn't Screaming Turtle Cafe though!) Nice walk on the beach in the sun! Beautiful!

Re: Wellington
My random list (Part 2!):
Bars: D4 on Featherston Street.
Cafes: Mount Cook Cafe is fab (if a wee bit of a walk up the hill!) or the replacement for the old Chocolate Fish - Scorchorama, Beach Babylon has had some good review from some of my friends (along Oriental Pde) as does the Victoria Street Cafe...
Food: Scopa up Cuba St for Pizza, Flying Burrito Bros for Mexican (also up Cuba), there is a Vietnamese restaurant up Tory St I can't recall the name of...food in St Johns is good and the finger food stuff in Mac's is great if you just want a snack with your beer...

I have to say Flying Burritos did an excellent spicy plate last time I was there.
Divine, especially washed down with a few jugs of Sangria!

Re: Wellington
All those (love Beach Babylon especially the coffee) plus:
Floriditas on Cuba Street (all day kitchen)
Le Metropolitain on Cuba Street
Caffe Italiano on Cuba Street and Brandon Street.
Great India on Courtney Place
Cafe Bastille on Majoribanks Street
My OH swears by Verve on Lambton Quay..in the CD shop and Arabica in the CBD.
Since you run a restaurant (I think) you may want to check out some of the top end stuff, supposedly still The White House, Logan Brown, Martin Boseley's and Citron (Wilis Street).
The best hotel restaurants are: the Bolton Hotel one (Bisque) and the Museum Hotel one (Hippotamus).
There are some new cafes on the waterfront between Te Papa and Oriental Bay but haven't tried any of those recently.
If you can get out of town Soi at Evans Bay is different with nice views and also Maranui at Lyall Bay(but very noisy).

Re: Wellington
Cheers everyone that has given me a few ideas, I do manage a restaurant so always enjoy visiting other establishments. Should be a cracking 4 days and hopefully Dylan will be as funny as I expect him to be.

Re: Wellington
Dinner - Martin Bosleys.
Lunch or coffee - Pravda.
Early evening beer - Atlanta Bar on the terrace - very nice if the sun is shining as it shines straight in between the buildings.
Cold, wet winters day lunch/beer - Backbencher. Food is far from great, but open fire and good atmosphere (if full)
