We have arrived in Tauranga -Wow!!!!!!
Left UK on Monday and arrived here on Wednesday afternoon to glorious sunshine and amazing sea views from the house we are renting in Omokoroa (thanks to helinuk).
Flew with Singapore airlines on Airbus 380. It was half empty and got to lie down across spare seats (not quite the same as business class beds but we could pretend...) We loved Changi airport it is much quieter and more relaxing than Dubai. I would certainly fly via Singapore again and give Emirates a miss as the experience was IMHO inferior.
We struggled to get our bags within the 25kg weight restriction but they were pretty relaxed at check in and because we were emigrating they waived us through. I did have to leave my 1.5 kilo pack of Yorkshire tea bags with rellys though.
We have already been out into Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Bethlehem. The sun is fiercely hot and is taking a bit of getting used to but it is great to be back to the beautiful places which won our hearts back in April this year.
We have had our first wobble though as I unexpectedly burst into tears last night when I went to bed and my 8 year old has just woken up this morning and is very teary. He is missing his little friends back in the UK and I am missing my parents. I have suggested he email them today and I will call my family when I am feeling perkier. I certainly didn't expect this but I think we were so exhausted when we were saying our goodbyes and this is a delayed reaction.
I know there will be plenty more tears ahead of us and hope most of them will be with laughter amongst new friends! Here's looking forward.....

Nice one Nice one! And good going with the flight being empty.
Been told the summer is going to break some records this year, plenty of sun cream required.

Hi everyone
thanks for the welcome. Feeling much better now. Just needed lots of sleep and a couple of good dinners to revive myself. Have skyped my folks and dog and feel much happier.
Spent all day yesterday viewing business premises and our trip was hopefully very succesful.
Having a day of rest today (that includes changing beds, ironing cooking and cleaning!) then visiting schools on Wednesday - went to Tauranga Girls college yesterday - mixed feelings about it. They showed no interest in our daughter which I thought was inappropriate we are going to check out Aquinas and Mount College too this week.

Re: We have arrived in Tauranga -Wow!!!!!!
Thanks Psychopandy
Been here just 9 days now and loving it. We have also met and spoken to lots of our friends on BE. If you see a very pasty white family around town with English accents come up and say hi you can't miss us.
We had our first sailing lessons this morning down at Omokoroa Boat Club, need to watch out for the boom as I quickly discovered.
We will be at St Marys Catholic Church at 10am mass on Sunday morning, then coffee at Alimento or Grindz then onto the Santa Parade in Mount Maunganui then back for the duck race in Omokoroa.
Next weekend we have kayaking lined up on Saturday and the family day in Omokoroa on Sunday.
We are definitely living the dream. Oh yes.......
