Default Visitors Visa - questions about rental accommodation and other practicalities

We would like to come and live in NZ on a visitors’s visa for the nine months allowed, living mainly in one place (location not decided yet) We have some questions which I’m hoping somebody here will either be able to answer or point us in the right direction! Accommodation: is it possible to rent furnished accommodation for 8/9 months or only for longer? Would we need a NZ bank account to do this? Is there a website where most of the rental accommodation is advertised? Another option would be to buy a camper van and use that with occasional holiday accommodation: how feasible is that? Or we could do a house swap as we will be renting out our house in the UK…does anybody know if that is a possibility? Money: what is the best way to do money for that length of time? Ie would we need a NZ bank account or could we manage with a credit card and one of the debit cards you can load such as revolut. Thank you!

If you are a UK passport holder you don't need a visa. You do need to obtain an NZeTA prior to departure.

You can stay up to 6 months, not 9

Do United Kingdom Citizens need an eTA for New Zealand?

UK passport holders don’t need to apply for a visa before travelling to New Zealand. However, British citizens must obtain a New Zealand eTA before departure.

The New Zealand eTA for the United Kingdom is valid for 2 years or until the passport’s expiry date, whichever comes first. Multiple trips to New Zealand can be made during this validity period.

Each stay in New Zealand with an NZeTA must not exceed 6 months.

A visitor visa is not the same as a tourist visa.
A visitor visa allows a stay of 9 months in any 18 month period.

Look on trademe for property rentals.
most realestate offices have a dedicated rental agent. Once you decide on an area simply google "realestate agents" in that area and reach out to the agents. Another option may be a long term stint in a motel. They are usually basically furnished and come with all amenities. They are plentiful in NZ and may offer a good solution and a degree of flexibility. At the moment, due to covid, many hotels/motels are desperate for customers. A long term agreement may get a reduced rate.
No idea what your finance are but the camper van idea would be very expensive due to the high cost of campers and motorhomes down here.
