Unsmoked Bacon
Yes I know.
What mindless moron has little else to think about but 'Unsmoked thin streaky bacon" that curls into mouth watering crispy crunchy fillings for a bacon buttie?
Answer in one!
ME!
Can anyone advise me where to go [now-now- let me finish!] for such bacon in the Nelson Bays area?
All I can seem to find is Manuka Smoked- great if you like smoked bacon- I don't.
Love Kippers though, and firm, white, flakey, tasty Haddock. [what's the nearest to Haddock down here?
Ok that's all re my culinary requests- I just seem to be getting these cravings for crispy bacon sarnies w/o the smoke.
No- I'm not pregnant.

I can't tell you exactly what they stock, but they have a good selection.

I tried Pastells for the exact same thing. I asked for unsmoked (green) rashers. The rashers were not good & extremely fatty , however, the gammon joint wasn't bad.
The nearest I have found to a good unsmoked rasher is in the deli counter of Woolworth in Nelson. Ask for the honey cured ( I think) bacon rashers. They come in packs .
Can't stick smoked rashers or chicken for that matter.Smoked salmon , kippers or other fish is another matter though.
IMHO there isn't a similar tasting fish to Haddock here. It has quite a unique flavour of it's own.
Of course, there are plenty of other fish to try, but if you have a fancy for a good piece of haddock, smoked or otherwise, you may have to simply put that on your wish list of things to eat during a UK visit. It's what I do. My listy also includes a good sized dressed or undressed crab and trout.
