Would anyone know if the domestic university fees are comparable to the uk?

Approx $6K a year here if you are a resident.

Just be aware that you have to have been living in NZ for 3 years as a resident or citizen before you can access a student loan (same rule as in the UK).

To be eligible for a Student Allowance or Student Loan you must be a New Zealand citizen.

If you're not a New Zealand citizen you must be ordinarily resident in New Zealand and meet one of the following residence requirements:
•have been entitled to reside indefinitely in New Zealand under the Immigration Act 2009 for at least 3 years and have been living in New Zealand for at least 3 years

Plus if you return to UK you must have lived back in the country for three years before you get student loan in UK even if you British Citizen, friends of ours moved back from OZ for Uni and daughter could not get student loan, beware.

In Scotland you will be charged international fees as opposed to domestic if you have been back in the country less than two years. I am doing a self funded Masters and, luckily, had been back two years and three months before I enrolled. Otherwise my £3,400 fees would have been over £15k. Eek.
