UK passport renewal time line.

On the 20th May I put my UK passport renewal into the postshop here in Nelson.

I received the renewed UK passport back today 3rd June 2010. I make that a wait time of just 2 weeks.

please note:-
I renewed the UK passport because I'd had one for simply decades and I have kept them all. I just couldn't quite bring myself to not have one anymore.

We are NZ citizens now and have our NZ passports which we will use to travel with for the first time in August. :)

Don't blame you for renewing it...cuzzy has both passports with him when he travels, uses each one for each direction of travel ! x

For anyone thinking about applying/renewing please read.

Things are set to get worse as there is currently massive upheaval at the passport office. Quite a few of the staff have just been let go :sneaky: and even more staff are off with stress/depression/sickness  The new manager really is trying to get every pound of flesh out of every staff member which has resulted in more time off:frown:

If you want to get an application right first time visit http://ukinnewzealand.fco.gov.uk/en/...pplying-in-nz/
and follow the how to guides. Also hand in all documents regardless of what the NZ post staff tell you, even if they photocopy docs and try to hand them back, originals only are what you need to submit, they are wrong and the above website is correct.

Just my 2p and good luck

I am so jealous Bevs.

I sent my passport off to Paris for renewal (Rome doesn't do them anymore) on May 5th and have had no word yet that it's on its way back to me.

I am driving everybody I know mad with my panic about it as I have 3 flights booked for next Thursday.

No passport ...... no flights !

Our girls (and now hubby) have both so travel using both. Makes things easier.

That was pretty quick though

Re: UK passport renewal time line.

Here is what I took to the Post Shop.

Completed Application form endorsed by an NZ justice of the peace.
Two photos one of which was endorsed by the NZ JoP
My original birth cert.
My original marriage cert.
My NZ driving license + a photocopy.
My expired UK passport.

The Post Shop employee checked everything off against something she could see on her screen. She kept the application form and expired passport , then took my fee by EFTPOS & gave me back everything else.

I always thought that when you are just applying for a renewal, you don't need to have your application/photos endorsed by JP/other professional person.

Has this changed or is it because you are applying from overseas? Quick service BTW, probably would have taken longer in the UK!

Both application form and (one)photo have to be endorsed by a professionally qualified person or a similar "person of standing".

Did mine at the Post shop ... quick and simple .. no problems.

Not true unless your appearance has changed a lot since your last passport photo ...

If you are renewing your passport, you only need to get your form countersigned and a photograph certified if you look very different from the photograph in your most recent passport.

Re: UK passport renewal time line.

I have just been to the NZ post shop this afternoon to renew my daughter's British passport - without a counter signature, as it is a renewal and we have been here less than 2 years. The lady couldn't deal with it as it wasn't countersigned - she showed me that if she typed 'no' to the question on her processing screen it refused to let her go any further in the application.

I had no choice but the phone the premium $4.50:ohmy: per minute phone line - only to be cut off the first time:thumbdown: and the second time to be transferred to someone who said that all photos must be countersigned even if it was for a renewal and the section on the application form must be filled out by the person countersigning. When I pointed out that wasn't what it said on the form he agreed that it was 'ambigous' but they do DEFINITELY need a signature from an appropriate person (he suggested the school principal as they know the child).

Back to the postshop on Monday then.....

Maybe because children do rapidly change in appearance.

Check out the actual passport form and notes in the link I provided earlier.

It says person who countersign your application also needs to sign photo's "I certify this is a true likeness of ..... etc, etc.

You'll find it all here .... http://ukinnewzealand.fco.gov.uk/en/...pplying-in-nz/

I know - but if you click on the highlighted "passport photos" on your link it takes you straight to the page that I linked.

I did not get anybody to sign my application or my photo. I haven't changed much since the last photo .... just a new wrinkle or two.

Re: UK passport renewal time line.

Your link is the UK website which also says that the countersignature must live in the UK.....It's starting to get confusing.

Probably simplest to just get it signed just in case? Especially as there is no refund if you cock it up!
