UK Housing Standards damned by Shelter

UK Housing Standards damned by Shelter
' Four in 10 people in Britain live in homes which fail to meet an acceptable living standard, Shelter has said.'
Now I know why people migrate - to get decent housing

As this is about the UK, I'll move it over there where those that live there will be better able to comment.

Hardly Bevs - firstly it is in Sheep Dip and secondly I thought it would provide a counter to the constant stream of negativity about NZ housing - but if you aren't prepared to have that

Not sure why you would think this is relevant to NZ housing
If the aim was to counter the heavy criticisms lately in the NZ media of NZ housing standards whether new or old builds , then perhaps start a thread about NZ housing which shows it in a positive light with a suitable article to back that up.
The opening post here is about UK housing which is relevant to the UK forum.

Shocking - accusing me of reading a socialist rag like the Guardian! My extract was from the Independent.

I still cannot see the relevance of the article to any NZ housing issue but now I realise you did intend it for the NZ forum, I shall move it back there.

Re: UK Housing Standards damned by Shelter
I'm with @Kotare on this one.
One of the biggest complaints aired here is that NZ housing is sub standard compared to UK housing.
Humorous take: 40% sub standard UK housing is driving people to NZ for better housing.
Cynical take: If 40% of UK housing is sub-standard and people still complain that NZ housing is worse than UK housing then housing quality in NZ must be really, really bad.
I suspect that in the UK sub-standard housing these days would be no central heating, no double glazing, damp and mouldy in the winter.

I often get attacked for 'defending' NZ (how dare I)! In practice, many NZ problems are just as common (or worse) in UK/Europe when you look at the stats. I exclude cucumber prices.
This doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist eg child poverty but lets have a balanced viewpoint. :-)

The Living Home Standard
If the same standards and criteria were applied to NZ homes I expect the number of substandard damp homes would easily be greater than 50%
