Default Tohora exhibition at Te Papa

We went for a look at the new exhibition on tohora (whales) this afternoon.

It's ace - well worth the $8 entry fee. They have whale skeletons, a full size model of a blue whale's heart that kids can crawl inside, a simulation of a whale diving with audio recorded from a real whale as it dives, loads of short films, displays on the evolution of whales, stuff about strandings, Maori whalebone art, huge screens.

We were in there for over an hour.

So go and have a look

Oh, and teachers get free entry to all Te Papa exhibitions.

'Tis indeed worth going along too. My two loved it, especially the 10 year old, although the 5 year old was suitably riveted too.

I couldn't believe how good Te Papa was...with the majority of it being free entry I didn't think it would be that good so only allowed 2 hours for the whole thing I was gutted as I didn't get to the whale bit as I was in there so long. Oh well we are going back at Easter, we will have to pop in.

Te Papa is a great place, especially if you are here and the weather isn't great, had friends here last week and we spent about 4 hours in the place, Whale exhibition is great value for money when you consider there is an exhibition in one of the glacier centres in Franz Josef that costs $25!!!!

Just make sure you allocate enough time to it all, covers a whole spectrum of NZ life and history, has a great shop and 2 good cafes
