Shock - Horror!! Evacuate now
‘Zombie volcano’ slowly grows beneath New Zealand : Nature News & Comment
The city of Tauranga, with more than 100,000 residents, lies about 50 kilometres west of the uplift. Elaine Smid, a volcanologist at the University of Auckland, notes that people in the area are already at risk from volcanic hazards, especially ashfall from the Taupo volcanoes.

OK, that's Tauranga off my list. Mind you, might lower house prices in the region.

We had a car pull up yesterday and ask about houses for sale locally. He was a Liverpudlian based in Auckland (so that was two strikes against). :-)
But we are 3 hours north of Auckland - hardly commutable.

LOL, I'd love to see what would happen if a whole lot of South Aucklanders moved north.
In fact, what's often not realised is that many in South Auckland don't commute to the CBD. There are plenty of employers in the south to make long commutes unnecessary.

Yes I do see at 6.30 the estimated time to city 1.20 minutes from papakura. So expect most are working in Wiri? Penrose? Mt wellington? East Tamaki areas

Yes, there are large commercial/industrial areas in all those places you mention. Plus several large retail centres. The commute time from Drury to the CBD is usually around 60 minutes according to the nice lady on the TV. Train commute is also 60 minutes from Papakura. If you catch the train you will notice that lots of people get off long before Britomart.
