Default Southern Lights - visible from NZ?

Hey guys.

Does anyone know if the Southern Lights or Aurora Australis as they are also know are visible from NZ?

I know you can see them from the south of Australia but looking at the world map, NZ is further south so in my head that means we should be able to see them...?

Anyone ever seen them? If so, where and what time of year?

Oooooo.....pretty colours.

Thanks Charismatic. I did run a quick search but didn't find anything before starting this thread.

Will dig about a bit more when I'm looking for something to help me sleep at night! lol

South of the South Island is the most likely place.
