My experience:
- British analogue TV sets do not work fully in NZ, as the sound is broadcast differently here (the picture is picked up without problem)
- British digital freeview TVs and tuners do not work in NZ, as the digital freeview here is in a different (and in fact more advanced) format

We are currently back in Uk but when we went to NZ last year we took our large flat screen, we just used the satellite channel to watch TV. I don't think I would buy one to take unless your happy to watch everuthing through the satellite channel
