Carole King (again) - You've Got A Friend
(can you tell I'm listening to "Tapestry"? :p ) My best friend from childhood went practically bankrupt - had 3 quid left in the bank! - by coming to the US for my and hubby's wedding way way back in the mid-90s. Now Alex is getting married this summer and I can't make it back (too skint - all our money went into the house / to the US taxman, the bastard) to give them a good send-off. Am gutted. :( :( :( |

Funny, it was "Distant Sun" by Crowded House that I kept hearing in the UK (and its one of my fav songs, never helps!) and always made me think of coming back out here....

That's one of my faves, too. But it makes me extremely melancholy no matter my previous mood.

Re: Songs for (depressed) expats to avoid
Not depressed at the mo, but there a couple of songs that I like to listen to when thinking of my Dad. Not missing the UK (yet) so not sure what I would want to listen to for 'missing home'.
My songs for Dad are: The Smiths - There is a light and it never goes out In particular the chorus: And if a double-decker bus Crashes into us To die by your side Is such a heavenly way to die And if a ten-ton truck Kills the both of us To die by your side Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine There are places I remember All my life though some have changed Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain All these places had their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life I've loved them all But of all these friends and lovers There is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more |
