Hi all, bare with me my point is made eventually...
I am a qualified Early Years Practitioner in scotland. I hold and SVQ3 in social services (children and young people) which is SCQF level 7. I have worked in childcare for several years. I am currently childminding, but I have nursery experience. I work in partnership with our council to provide funded ELC. I am responsible for planning, linking and leading curriculum for all ages of children from birth to 16 but specified for 5 and under. As well as aspects of running a successful business. That to say I have the experience to meet the ece or teacher requirements in new zealand but I'm not sure my qualification matches to their expectation. From my research it only holds weight to a level5 or 6 diploma in NZ. Everywhere I've looked seems to want a degree. Are there jobs out there in early childhood I can do with these qualifications? I and my family (husband and 2 children) are looking to move out permanently in the next year or 2. A degree will take me longer than that. I've started the application to do my svq 4 at SCQF 9 but again does it transfer? I Know you can pay for an IQA but my research online says that this doesn't hold weight for employers it's more for immigration? Is it worth the fees, is it something I definatly need to do anyway in the immigration process. Any help is appreciated. Thankyou

Quick tip, Don't simply convert the salary to GBP to compare income. Tax, cost of living, particularly housing, and where you settle here in NZ can have a massive influence on standard of living. The old rule used to be divide by 3 to gain a rough comparison but I've been away from the UK for too long now to know if that's still valid

OK. So there is a bit to unpack here.

1 - Can you please look at the ANZSCO listing and find your occupation. Is it 241111 ?
2 - New Zealand does need people. Skilled people and that is no matter what the current across- party political leanings are.
3 - Any teacher of any sort is going to need an understanding of the bi-cultural nature of this country and also Te Reo . It is integral.
4 - Yes - An IQA assessment is really a must and Yes - this will be needed for the immigration process. However, if you can prove you meet the NZ standard for the occupation then the IQA assessment is a positive to your resume.
5 - Sometimes work and experience can help substitute for formal quals if the formal qual is not of the NZ/Oz standard ( please note that is not a reflection on ability , study, or education . It simply refers to the country standard.
6 - You could look to applying to an NZ 'Accredited Employer' . They are on the NZIS accredited list for a reason. Not enough staff applying Just be careful with that a little bit. However you might get lucky and then be able to work on the job and 'upskill' to NZ ways and standards.
7 - Browse ECNZ website and have a conversation. You could offer to upskill from afar and in any case you might be offered an "in" .
8 - An early pre-school teacher is on the regional lists HOWEVER as you have fathomed this is to a degree standard and registration is required.

He's ex military currently in the Rm Reserves. Hes trained as a tree surgeon so we are looking at that option too.
