Shipping Costs, is it worth it?
Hello all,
Is there anyone who could advise me of the approx cost of shipping some of the contents of my house from the UK to Wellington...........and is it worth it. Of some of the NZ sites I have visited, to replace the furniture ect that I have would cost a fortune. But I fear a container would be just if not more costly.
Any advice would be welcome,
Beef

Hiya Beef...
We have been in Auckland just a few weeks now. We used a local moving company and it cost us 3.7k before insurance. They packed everything...they were very professional and everything got here in one piece 2 weeks ago..they even take the rubbish away with them.
Yes it was expensive but we regret not bringing more furniture with us as we did have a little bit of room left over in the container. Bring everything you can... everything is more expensive here than you think its gonna be.
The name of the company we used was Hadley and Ottaway and they are based in Norwich if youre anywhere near them. Pickfords quote was way over 4k.

I cant praise them enough...they were really good and nice bunch of folk too...all uniformed and no part time/temp labour. Their agent in AKL is The Moving Company and they were pretty good too.
You might find a quote from them a bit cheaper than ours as we had 3 specialist items specially packed in wooden crates which bumped the price up a bit.

we're using PSS and it's costing us £3600 for a 20ft container plus £5.20 /cubic foot for groupage - door to door service, all the packing, all the paperwork, all the unpacking. doesn't include insurance.

Groupage is basically where you share a container I think.
We've used PSS and found them fab at the UK end.
All the advice I've had is to bring everything whether you think you'll need it or not!! :scared:

the only things that won't work are the TV's for receiving broadcast that you can hear - will work if broadcast routed through other stuff (VCR's / DVD's etc) You'll need to change plugs and repairs / spares could be difficult but saves costs at the outset. If you search back through threads on here there have been many discussions re: electrical stuff.
