Shipping companies
Will shipping companies hold your stuff for a few months until you get sorted with accomodation, if you haven't already sorted a place to live before you arrive?

Re: Shipping companies
Yes they will, not sure of the costs involved though sorry.
We had accomodation sorted by the time the container arrived.

Re: Shipping companies
We needed a 40ft container which was probably about 3/4 full and we were paying them £53 per week for the storage alone.... note though that if you're insuring your goods for the journey across, you'll also need to extend the insurance to cover the storage period too... if the storage period extends further, extend the insurance further and so on.
We sorted our insurance out through lettonpercival.co.uk (Brian Naughton) - much cheaper than the policy offered by PSS and we were paying them £68.84 per month for the storage period.

Yes, they will, we had PSS store our stuff from September 13th, until December 8th when it finally left the UK (we had them hold on to it until the wife secured a job out here).

Re: Shipping companies
I would also not trust Allied Movers NZ, who arranged a removal date for my container in Auckland, but then said missing paperwork at Tauranga was holding up. When I chased up things, my container never went via Tauranga, and was not held for missing papaerwork at all. By that time, the UK firm and then gone bust, I ended up having to pay for International Shipping element again, and the NZ removals through Allied who even charged extra holding charges for holding onto my container.

Depends on the shipping company. Another choice is to ask for it to go on a slow boat. We had ours stored for 4 weeks (for free) but then the removals company got a boat that would take 10 weeks to arrive. Worked out cheaper than the normal 6 week boat....Also, remember the delay at NZ and going through MAF clearance. Could add another week on......
