We stayed at the Quest on the Terrace in Wellington recently, pretty local but badly needs a refurbishment
It was clean enough but was looking a bit run down

There are two Quests on the terrace, make sure you stay in Quest Atrium as its the better one, I know I spent 6 months living there!

Hmmm definitely looks familiar!
What's your budget? In the end I found the Southern Cross apartments were what I was after but if Quest had availablity for the price I was looking at I would have gone with them too.
If you are on a super budget there's always Ustay.co.nz
They are university apartments available for rent in the summer period. They have kitchenettes. Bit basic but it's one option if you are looking at the budget end of the scale.
Another one is the Central City apartments or whatever they are called run by Prime Hotels www.primehotels.co.nz
They are on victoria street. They seemed ok....but I preferred Southern Cross. FWIW, I think the rate there for a month stay in November was $460pw for a basic double studio, $480pw for a premium double studio and $610pw for a 2 bedroom apartment. All furnished, internet included (i think).

I assume she means these... http://www.sxapts.co.nz/
They are in the Cuba district among lots of restaurants. It is the grungy part of town but perfectly safe...was there for lunch today myself. Easy to walk all over central Wellington from there...it really is a compact city.
At the other end of the scale, some hotels have apartments e.g. www.boltonhotel.co.nz
and www.museumhotel.co.nz but the price difference is considerable.

If all else fails you can usually get a space in Reading Cinemas(a bit of a walk away - there are several nearer ones) car park for 10 dollars a day....not sure if overnight is more. The most expensive central car park seems to be Queens Wharf (to be avoided if on a budget).
The Stadium also has cheap emptyish parking (if no games on) during the week but it is quite a hike from Cuba Street.

Just a word of warning with the Southern Cross Apartments (and yes, that link was to the ones I was thinking of), many (most? All?) their standard double studio rooms are on the ‘bar’ side. There’s a bar next to the Apartments.
Which means that if you choose one with a balcony you may find it noisier than the ones without a balcony.
If you get a 2 bedroom apartment then they are on the ‘other’ side. So quieter.

We were informed as we checked out after 4 nights of hell that they were
in dispute with council over noise generated by two huge Air conditioning units in front and at side, belonging to adjacent buildings. The noise from them through the night and the screech of car tyres as boy racers 'raced through the 5 levels of multi-story carpark in front of 'hotel?' gave a whole new meaning to sleep deprivation.
Have stayed at other Quest franchises before and found them reasonable.

Steer well clear of Quest on Gilmer!
