Hi what are the high schools like in Christchurch? My son is year 11 will he struggle?

Does your son want to move, how is he academically, how sociable is he, what is he hoping to do in the future. All relevant in my opinion when advising about school.

He Can do good at school when he wants to he is worried about

I have no experience of schools in Christchurch only Auckland but for us I will say, totally different learning style in NZ. They do independant learning. If your sons not motivated that will be hard.
He should make friends fine but will really have to work at that himself.
