Anyone have any idea as to what type of information should be included in a reference for a landlord In NZ?
I was thinking of asking the letting agent who is managing my property in the UK , however I imagine I will need a second reference; what did others do when they were renting? Do I need a previous employer to provided a character reference. :

Hi Emma, a reference and contact from your UK letting agents is perfect, the other could be a character reference from an employer perhaps to say you are honest, trustworthy and of good character!!
I would just add an e-mail or contact number that way the agents could ask for confirmation if they want to. However, we only had a character reference from a new colleague from here!! and have had no problems renting so all should be good - others may have different suggestions though
Good luck - see you soon in Napier

I didn't have any references when I first arrived and didn't have any issues renting my first property. All I took along was proof of employment to prove I could actually pay the rent but was never asked for anything.
I guess rental agents are pretty used to people arriving here and renting here for the first time (or like me renting anywhere for the first time as I owned in the UK) and not being able to provide landlord references and its not such a big deal.

I think we just provided our agents with email addresses of old housemates and they just said we were honest, had reliable incomes etc.
Not long to go now! Did you find somewhere central? x

Arrived in one piece, staying in Ahuriri temporarily until we find somewhere more permanent, although there does not seem to be much out that there will fit my furniture in(when it arrives) hmmmmm. I am now feeling a little bit anxious about being left alone with my little one when hubby starts week in 1 week, but looking forward to exploring.

oh dear, hope you'll be able to find somewhere big enough eventually...fingers crossed!let me know if you fancy a cup of tea or something. I've had to give up my day off a fortnight and go up to full-time (sad days!) but could maybe meet up in my lunchbreak on one of the days up in napier (or an evening or weekend obviously!) xx

Do you have any mates that are solicitors or in the police? If so these are really good for letting agents they love them!

Hi Emma, glad you got here safe and sound
like Jen I work full-time but usually at home and have the wine open by 5.30pm, which you will probably need after trawling through Trademe for a place!!!
