I'm disappointed that all those reports that NZ is 20 years behind are patently untrue I was really looking forward to rediscovering The Cure, Siouxsie, The Police, Spandau Ballet (aaah memories)

Talking of music, I'm a huge fan of Pink Floyd. I am going to see Aussie Pink Floyd the tribute band in April in Birmingham. Does anyone know if they play New Zealand??? Saw them Last year too and they were fantastic!!! :)

Right heres a few bits that may help

http://www.propertystuff.co.nz/ property & suburb profiles, the data there comes from 2000 census data supplied by Statistics New Zealand.

http://www.tki.org.nz/e/schools/index.php
click on the school name to get the decile rating 1 is low 10 is high 'The Ministry of Education uses a decile rating system for school funding purposes.
Each decile contains approximately 10% of schools. Schools in decile one have the highest proportion of students from low socio-economic backgrounds. Schools in decile ten have the lowest proportions of these students' , also for schools, addresses, web sites etc

I am qualified in residential lettings and property management here in the UK and an associate member of the national association of estate agents, we are moving to NZ in December and planning to re-train in the legal aspects of the above in NZ and open our own business. I would suggest - if it's not common practise there (yet) take/make an inventory/schedule of condition and photos - dated and signed by both in-going tenant and landlord/agent and/or a DVD/Video film of the property. UK landlords are just as dodgy!!!

WHile that is a great suggestion it has been something that has been done by alot of people in NZ for years, although some still need educating in it & NZ does have a tenancy protection act that protects both tenant & landlord. The deposit made for a rental does not stay with the landlord, it is deposited with the tenancy council & at the end of the rental if there is any dispute between landlord & tenant then the case goes before the tenancy tribunal & this is often finds in favour of the tenant & does help to stop landlords trying to rip the tenant off. Its a signed agreement that is made at the beginning of the rental & I think if you do a google of NZ tenancy laws or rules you will come up with it & even the appropriate forms to download & print.

If you have school-age kids, the new school will ask for a list of immunisations. I never thought to take immunisation records with with us as a matter of course. Put it in your luggage!! We had to blag it :D
Also, remember to take a no-claims bonus certificate for your car insurance ...
and if you have been renting in the UK, ask your landlord to provide a rent reference
If you have time, get in touch with IDR in NZ before you leave UK, may save some messing about
Hope this helps :D

My Shipping quotes

We are looking for a 20ft container, full packing and unpacking service, and insurance from Cambs to Wellington (within 30 mile radius):

Glasswells £3820
includes standard liability up to a value of £50k
Quote provided without coming out to the house

Hadley & Ottaway Ltd £3603
Marine insurance offered separately via another company
This bloke seemed to contradict everything other people said - eg, dont transport cars, all household wooden furniture and items (even wooden spoons for baking and wooden frames of divan beds) must be treated...taking it a bit far I thought.

John Mason £3720
He reckoned I would have surplus - quoted £1260 (not to exceed 250cu ft)
They offer their own Insurance at 3% of the value of the goods

Fox's of Norwich £3690
Insurance to be quoted on £20k contents

European Van Lines £2550

(I completed this online - I think I seriously underestimated how much crap i have)

They calculated 600cuft therefore door to door via a groupage service

PSS Quote £3563
insurance is 2.8% of the value

Britannia Harrison & Rowley £3294
They can arrange Marine insurance if required.

Oakbridge - waiting for quote

My top 3 are PSS, John Mason and Oakbridge. Oakbridge is a local firm and because of that I am a little put off because I know that PSS and John Mason are exclusively international shippers. I suspect we might end up with PSS.

HI Caroline
I tried to register but it kept going to 'contact us' page. Have you managed to become a 'member' and login to retrieve the information?
