Where are you looking? Even a quick glance at TradeMe shows houses well below $850 in good areas, even good houses in the best areas like Remuera, Mission Bay, St Heliers etc
Not that I think Remuera is a 'Best' area, but it is one of the most expensive.

Hi everyone
Thanks for all the replies. We were slightly limited in the area that we could look in as we had enrolled the kids in a nursery on Richmond Rd (done from the UK on a friends recommendation as the waiting lists can be big). Anyway, we have just found a great place and it is very convenient for nursery and work. We can't move in til 16 Nov but our stuff probably won't be here until the end of Nov anyway! It is such a relief to have found somewhere as I start work on Monday - eek!
