Default questions, questions, questions??

Hi,
we're a family of 3, me, him and a 12yr old son and not forgetting the cat, and we're contemplating a move to NZ... need all the info you can supply. Luke is a keen football player and the OH is a keen 1/2 marathon runner.... still trying desperately to convince him that NZ is the right move for us. What's the cost of living like, how do the pubs fare and what's work and crime like? so many questions so little time!! How easy is it for 40 somethings to make friends? looking forward to all the answers, both good and bad.

thanks,

big nelly

Hi Nelly, sure there are bars and pubs, more obviously in the cities, lots of 'Sports' bars. However most people prefer to gather round someones house - drink works out cheaper, kids don't need sitters - they can join in (not the drinking!!).panic not

we've been out to the pubs a couple of times, but to be honest everything goes dead about 10pm....(where we live anyway)back in scotland we would just be getting warmed up by then....we now tend to socialise round each others houses.....judging by peoples green bins on bin day,so does everyone else.....

cost of living ,to sum it up for us,more expensive than living in scotland....jacky

Hi,

thanks for that, I'm originally from Scotland too, but migrated to near Leeds (uk) nearly 18yrs ago. I have itchy feet once again and trying to persuade the OH that NZ is the move for us. We're relatively sociable and like to go to the pub to mix, but also like you, we like to socialise at home, as getting someone to have our son (who's 12) is like finding hen's teeth! How long have you been there for and what's the main diference with your lifestyle compared to home?

thanks again for the info,
