Question for expat builders trades on rebuild
Hi, hoping that someone can help.
If I arrived in Christchurch from UK on a 6 month standard visitor visa (which is not a working visa of any description) and by chance found an employer looking for someone with my skill (im a groundworker), how easy would it be (generally) to get the said employer to sign paperwork allowing me to apply for a temp working visa and how long would this take ? Could i start the work and wait until temp work visa came through ?
I suspect that most expat workers already have work lined up before they arrive, but how difficult would it be to arrive first and find a job when i get there ? Have you heard of anyone in this situation and how did they get on ?
Are there any good recruitment agencies that can help sort this once I arrive ? Thanks for any response

My husband says that most agencies are sorting out visas for people. Try Hawkins,Fulton Hogan, City Care (employers) direct.

just so you know, you will not be able to start any type of work until you have a visa in your passport.
my husband got his temp work visa in a day, but that was Wellington Immigration office turn up and wait. Not sure about ChCh

Yes, don't think anyone would have you working without the correct visa, even though there is so much work to do in ChCh
