Floatsy, my suggestion is to do some research about the market in NZ, tourism, and look into whether there are any similar retreats in NZ and how they do. I know there are some very high end retreats there but not sure how doable that would be fore you on your budget. The other thing to consider is that NZ is much farther away from the large markets, unlike BC, which has the US right next to it, and is only 9 hours from Europe, so it's going to be a smaller pool of potential visitors to draw from. FYI it's teh SOuth ISland and the North Island. Calling them anything different shows you up as someone who hasn't done any research.

HTH.

Many thanks, Kiwilass. That's helpful, and agree. I was just in a rush so posted quickly, the forum people encountered elsewhere are very nice. I didn't realise the expats here were such immature football club mentality a**holes, but live and learn.

Thanks again, take good care.

Why is real estate cheaper in the highlands of Scotland rather than London?

Sure, look at the world. War ad finitum, guess there's a reason. Glad to see the theme amongst the British NZites, rude rugby mentality - 'twas informative and good reason for the bandying. Good Luck !

Yeah it was a daft original question.

As for the South Island, how about:
- there are few jobs
- incomes are low
- its remote
- its cold
- nothing much happens
- no-one wants to live there?

Of course, it suits many people, but so does Scotland.

Most people head to Auckland and Wellington, admittedly often out of necessity rather than choice.
