If I apply for residence but have just under 25 points I can apply for a 6 month temp visa.
1) Does my wife also go out on this visa or a visitor visa?
2) I seem to remember that you have to go to NZ with un 3 months of getting the visa - is that true?
many thanks
Steve

Visitor visa for your wife - so no work for her

The work visa is valid for up to 9 months from the date of issue, So if you come here
after let's say 4 months you'll be able to stay for only 5 months. It's up to you
when to come, but in the unlikely event you don't get a job you have to leave within
this timeframe.

Just a quick clarification - can you expand on the 'unlikely' bit as you obviously
know more about the NZ job market than I. What worries me is that it seems a bit of a
risk to say the least. Whilst I know I have to take a risk to get something I really
want, I also live in Britains highest area of unemployment and getting a job if I
have to come home will be difficult to say the least. Thanks Pat.

It depends on what job you are after. If you have a technical skill, IT or banking
you should get a job quickly enough. After coming here I've spent only 3 weeks
without a job and when I've decided to switch to a better one it was pretty easy too
(I'm involved electronics/computers). You should give it a go. Good luck!
