We have been here for 5 months now and my wife is working as a social worker in Auckland. My wife went streight into employment with 10 years under her belt and needed no other quals to practice. You will need to be registered but you need around 6 months working with and understanding the maori to get registered which your employer will sort out and pay for, then you get a pay rise.

Hi OP,
I am a NZ qualified SW, kiwi and have just returned from living and working as a SW in London for 11 years.
Have alook in the Child, Youth and Family website, there is a section for overseas social workers and it lists vacancies also. CYFs are the main statutory organisation for social workers and they are nationwide, kind of like one big local authority. Usual story that there is too much work and not enough money. Working for CYFs especially in the North Island would be somewhat of a culture shock but there are some nice roles and the pay is better that NGO work ( much better paid).
There are also lots of charities and other organisations that do lots of family support and social work. They are usually under a religious umbrella I.e Presbyterian Support, Anglican Family Care. There are also Maori and Pacific Island specific services.
Hoefully this works but here is a cut and paste of an old thread I responded to...will save me repeating it all

What I can say is there is very little in the way social work agencies, but if you want to PM me I will try to give you as much info as you need.s
It has been a rollercoaster for my working for the last three months.
Look forward to hearing from you
