I bought a cream called SkinCalm from the pharmacy. It was quite expensive but does stop the itching. You only need to use a tiny bit on each bite, so it has lasted ages. On the tube it says 'restricted medicine' which probably means you need to get it at a pharmacy.

Re: mozzie bite remedies
I usually get bitten to buggery as a I head into the garden so I have done much personal research .
I don't bother with over the counter stuff etc. The first thing to actually work and stop me itching was Trilogy Rosehip Oil. Just rub it onto any bites I have and 'Bingo' they stop itching. You can buy it from Farmers, pharmacies etc.
Just before Christmas my friend introduced me to Tea Tree Solid Oil Balm and this is the treatment I've discovered yet. Not only does it stop the itching, the bite marks disappear within a matter of hours. Fabulous stuff. It cost just under $20for the 12ml tub. They have a wee stick thing too which is around $15.
I got mine from an Art/Craft shop in Whangaparaoa but it has a website address for Feel at Home - Welcome to Feel at Home, hopefully that will give you a list of stockists down your way.

Doesn't work for me but lots of people recommend and carry around a tube of Lucas Pawpaw ointment.

Soov is a product I've found. It's available from chemist shops. Not cheap but then this is NZ. It's a cream to put on bites. It will calm the itching in a couple of hours and promote healing.
I keep reapplying it every day to the insect bite areas and it aids healing. It's antiseptic and I assume a bit of an anaesthetic cream too.

Hairdryer as hot as you can stand - go on, try it! Diluted dettol spray works well for deterrent when gardening; not really suitable for nights out tho!

Oh dear, I suffer terribly from mozzie bites
I find that a dab of white toothpaste rubbed over the bite helps to cool it down, and takes the swelling down. Hope this helps
