Hi guys,
welcome to the forum... no expert on either of your jobs, but knowing people in those trades, anywhere will bite your hand off to give you a job if your a nurse! HGV drivers i believe is a bit more regionalised, but i'm sure somebody with a greater knowledge will be along to help...
Have some karma anyway...
Simon

Kia Ora and welcome to this little NZ forum.
There are several nurses and hgv drivers working on North Island who post to this site. Perhaps start new threads in the main forum to attract their attention. I'm sure plenty of folks will be along to help.
If you want to contact someone directly , you need 3 posts here to enable you to send a private message to them or you can send them an email ,via BE, by going to their profile and clicking on 'send email' .

Are your names really Tom and Linda?
Sorry! I just had an awful image of the characters from Gimme Gimme Gimme run through my head. And I now know which song will be stuck in my head tonight
Good luck. I'll come back when I can give helpful advice rather than asking strange questions about tv shows.....

Re: Moving to New Zealand
Hi
Im a newbie too .... first time on this site. Hi Everyone!
We are in the first stages of researching NZ as a place to live, have ruled out Canada (too cold) and Oz (on account of the spiders), and now our attention has turned to NZ. It was my original preference but hubby wasnt so keen!
So I would be grateful for any advice...
My hubby is a builder/joiner/CAD designer and I am a children's illustrator and lecturer, and we have a 4 year old son. We are aware that the construction industry is in a downturn at the moment, but its the same all over.... could anyone suggest places to live/work, we prefer the warmer climate, so are probably looking at the north island.
I will keep my agent in London so I can work from anywhere, so it is more important that we base ourselves somewhere hubby can find work.

hi Tom & Linda...
I am also a sister in the emergency dept - we are moving to north shore on my work alone (hubby is looking for work when we arrive in vehicle mechanics -he has been told told no probs) I got in touch with an agency called 'Tonix' - told them what i wanted and where i wanted to go - Heidi, the lovely woman who works there did the rest, my interview was set up on the phone - and I now am just waiting for the ITA to be completed, and then we go - hopefully in a few weeks, with a great job waiting for me.
the agency cost me nothing, and all the other info i got off this wonderful web site... so far it has been easy. Just got to sell the house now...... and sort the kids and dog out, sigh.
good luck to you both.

Work in the Norht Island should be no trouble for either of you. My hubby is an HGV driver and we were out in NZ from 2005-2007. You will have to drive much older style vehicles and crash boxes also you wil have to learn to drive with draw bar trailers, apart from that you can just swop yr english HGV licence for a NZ one with your tick test. We have good friends who are Nurses and they have had no trouble at all securing work.

I am a qualified nurse & I have a job waiting for me at Tauranga hospital (in theatres)
I too applied to Tonix & have found them to be very good....I also dealt with Heidi...she is indeed lovely & will answer any questions within 24 hours via email. I too told her the area I wished to work in & she arranged the interview, which I had over the phone...sat in my pjs with a glass of wine in hand!
It takes approx 6 weeks to get your NZ nursing registration, so it may be a good idea to get the ball rolling with that first...just go to the Nursing Council of New Zealand website...it tells you everything you need to know.
Good luck with everything...feel free to PM me if you like
