Default MORTGAGE CRITERIA FOR NEW PRs??

Am sitting at work dreaming of NZ, surfing real estate sites, can anyone help me with mortgage advice. Such as, how long do you have to be in the country to get a mortgage (or does PR give you the right to get one straightaway), do the banks usually give different rates for migrants, is a 20% deposit usually sufficient, and can you get a mortgage without a property in mind (given how many homes are bought through auction). All advice gratefully received!

One of my very very good friendshere is also our bank manager and we had no problems whatsoever getting a mortgage with them - we bank with the National Bank of NZ - and they have always been fantastic, can't rate them high enough - hence we ended up friends with the BM - actually I met his wife through school They have been marvellous and we do all our personal and business banking with them as well as some social funds etc through work. We opened our account from the UK - transferred the money and when we got here we just had to go and pick up our cards and away we went.

Right then Shellie, you'll have to organise a drinks party with your BM for all us expats when we get there
