Making the Move - Bay of Plenty region
Hi my name is Sharon and my partner, Dave and our two daughters Emily, 3 and Olivia, 1 are embarking on the big move to NZ. My partner has previously visited and workied out there but i am a NZ virgin!! I have never visited but from what i hear i don't think i will be dissappointed, I have travelled before and did plan to visit NZ but returned to the UK due to dwindling funds?
My partner is hoping to be offered a job in Rotorua and we hope to settle somewhere between there and the Bay of Plenty (hopefully closer to the coast) I wuld really like to hear from anyone living in this area to just chat about anything from schools to where the best places to get coffee or eat out are.
Look forward to hearing from you
Sharon

Papamoa, Mt Maunganui & Whakatane are in the Bay of Plenty and are close to the beach. They are approximately 1 hour away from Rotorua.

Hi Sharon, welcome to the forum
I'm in Rotorua and loving it, happy to answer any questions that you might have about Rotorua and the surrounding areas. I don't know the coastal areas very well I'm afraid, have visited but can't say I know them well enough to make any useful comments.
I guess it depends how close you want to be to the coast, and how large a community you want to live in, how long your husband is planning on spending on the commute to work, and all that.
Outside the larger residential areas NZ can be very rural with small villages and communities, lots of those between Rotorua and the large coastal towns/ citiies, but I'm struggling to think of a reasonable sized town in a reasonable mid way location . If you're looking for a rural lifestyle there's lots of opportunities, but it all depends on what you want.
Good luck with the plans

Hi or should i say Kia Ora
Thank you for everyone who has responded and i hope i can get to know some of you better over the coming months. I really value your opinions and thoughts as we embark on a life changing move to wht we belive is a beautiful country.
Can anyone shed any light on a good website/information on taxes/NI contributions (or NZ equivilent) and how the medical/dental care system works, also child benefits and at what age they get funding for schools/nurseries. I know in the uK from 3 they get government grants for 15 hours per week for pre-school..
Sorry for so many questions
