Re: the main reason people leave new zealand is a lack of.......
Fish here tasted a bit strong to us at first but we are getting used to it after two plus years.
I am actually having to be a bit inventive with food on our very low budget so I never think of including fish cos it was so expensive in the UK but the hubby seems to have got the hang of catching the things now so I'm going to have to think up new recipes.
He caught something and it was huge and the blokes in the know said he should have bled it on the beach cos it's a bit like tuna. Guts were all over the kitchen

I suspect that ben and jerry's (never heard of it before) isn't imported or made under licence as it's not considered a reknowned market leader. Also with a population the size of Sydney, if they don't have it in OZ, doubt you will find it in NZ. Economies of scale in marketing/exporting perhaps?
You don't get Ben and Jerry's here in OZ either. But we do have Brit shops that do import things such as Walker Crisps.
The BIG U.S. Ice cream here is Baskins and Robbins and they retail through ice cream parlours and are a very good quality. Do you get Baskins and Robbins in NZ?
Among the best ice cream I have ever had is and Australian product, made in WA. It's top of the range and sells in supermarkets here for around $7 a litre container and is called "Conniseur". Truly brilliant stuff.

It's now owned by Unilever and has global sales of US$ 300 million. It is considered to be the market leader in North America and is a close second to Haagen Dazs in Northern Europe.
FYI, Phish food is called that because it contains marshmallows shaped like Fish.
Once you have tasted Ben and Jerrys you will NEVER consider any other ice cream to be as good.
