he has been great. I need my blood monitored as I am on warfarin and he calls me at weekends and after hours with dosage adjustments and advice. I'm very impressed with his level of care.

Ah ! Sticky blood. I've a good friend who went on wayfarin at the age of 40 odd following a brain aneurysm. Takes a good while to regulate I gather.
Fair play to the doc for being thorough.

We did try to press the GP for a referral because of the liver function tests results, but no joy. It was me that insisted on the thyroid function tests, which showed very under-active , not the GP.

Hi, my husband had the same problem with his Liver test. He was horrified, as he is the healthy one and I was the one with the problems. His doctor told him to go to the gym get a bit healthy and stick to a good diet for a couple of months, when he retested his Liver function test was fine, so there is hope dont give up it will happen for you. All the best :)

Hi stemarpet.

Thing with my husband is that he was and is fit. Not overweight. Doesn't drink much alcohol . Plays sports and has a good healthy diet. The only extra thing he could do was go completely tee-total ,which he did for over a year. Result = worse test results than ever.
Thankfully 2/3 years on, the results have settled down somewhat. Not normal as they used to be but not shockingly outside of the parameters either.
What bothers us is that we still don't know why this happened or if it will happen again.

Hi Bevs,

I know you said your husband is very healthy, but does your husband happen to be on medication for blood pressure. Although my husband is healthy in most areas he does have a blood pressure problem. His docor informed him that some medication will cause elevated Liver function and I know that this can be true because a friend of mine who is female has the same problem also and surprise she is also on medication for blood pressure. Just thought I would mention it. Hope all goes well all the best.:thumbsup:

Thanks everyone, kind of interesting that immigration didnt seem to concerned with the slightly elevated results once they established something like Hepatitis wasn't the issue.
Time to crack out the champagne to celebrate residency and England''s qualification for the last 16 (it's obviously gone to my head already).

Congratulations on getting residency!!

I read the thread and just wanted to say that drinking high amounts of fruit juice (and high amounts of stuff like high fructose corn syrup used as a sweetener in drinks etc) is known to cause fatty liver syndrom. If you are going to give up the booze don't replace it with fruit juice as you will continue to harm your liver. There is no medical difference between non alcoholic FLS and alcoholic FLS, except of course the cause. Therefore cut back on juice and fruit if you have liver issues. Fatty liver syndrome of either cause can become Cirrhosis so treat it seriously.

Hey All,

So the system does work and people are still getting their visa's? Great to see. I read with interest al of the thread(s) as I am in the same boat at the moment.

I am on Sinvastatins for high cholesteral and I have also been diagnosed with fatty liver after ultrasound. My readings which should be 25 and 35 (sorry can't remember what they are called) are 50 and 71 respectively. my Dr says that is within the normal range but does not know what the limits are for the NZ medical board.

I have my medicals booked for 14th December giving me plenty of time to stop drinking, eat healthily with a view to shed a few pounds/stone. My BMI is currently 30. something and I have started running 4 miles, three times a week.

I replaced alcohol with natural water and feel so much better for doing it. I just hope it all works on bringing my liver readings down!

Not for me I'm afraid:(. I had elevated LFTs and discovered gallstones. Had my gallbladder removed in August and my LFTs are higher than before the surgery. GGT is 106, ALT is 63 and Bilirubin is 35. My case is with the medical assessors and they're asking for repeat bloods again with an explanation as to why they're still abnormal. Wasn't really getting anywhere with my GP, although he did refer me for an ultrasound in September, but that was clear. So I contacted the consultant who did the surgery and I've got an appointment with him tomorrow. Got a feeling that it might be a stray gallstone stuck somewhere, but I'm no expert, so I'll await the professional opinion and keep my :fingerscrossed:
