Red face January? And other questions.

Anybody here leaving In January? What kind of things are you sorting out now, are you excited or nervous?

So far we have Opened NZ bank accounts and started to transfer money, OH has got a job lined up, booked a motel for 3 weeks, Booked our flights and had our police checks come back.

We are leaving 23rd January for Chch, OH has a job offer in writing so off we go.......

We will be sorting our work permits out over there as we have heard it is quicker, and we intend to go for PR within a few months. Has anybody else done it this way, would you be kind enough to share your experience of going over with a Job to go to but sorting the permits out from NZ. Oh and we are planning to get medicals in NZ too, would that be ok or do you think we should book them now to have them done before we leave. Many thanks xx

Be careful if you are entering without a work permit on a one way ticket, make sure you are allowed to do this, you dont want to be refused check in!

You can do the medicals in NZ

Are you sure you cant get work permits sorted out in the UK?

Hiya

We're hoping to go in January/Februaury too. Hubby out next week for interviews. NZIS told us last week at expo that with a job offer turn around on work permits are 7-10 working days. You can put your application in for PR at the same time or when you land in NZ. I've had PSS around today to quote for move.

You also need to make sure you've got at least two years on your passport going out on a work to residence visa. From what I've read on advice from airlines, you won't get in on a visitors visa with a one way ticket.

yes its easy, plenty of doctors do immigration medicals

if you dont have a record of immunisation, you will have to get (and pay for ) them again (things like MMR etc). no worries there, just extra costs and an extra jab (or two)

Hi There,

We had our medicals done here in NZ, very easy just called up the local health center, booked appointments for the next week no problem, wasn't even asked about immunisation, that was 18mths ago. Did the same as you are planning, came out on a return ticket, got a job, then work permit, then PR, next on the agenda is citizenship.

How long did it take for you to get a work permit? Was it fairly easy to obtain? From the time you applied for PR how long did that take?
