I know about the hot water on cold glass. This is why I wince whenever I see it. Eeek.

Yep, it's a Ford that we have, latest in a line of them. My morning view is through a copse of beech trees down into a beautiful valley although I only see it at weekends in the winter months due to darkness.

From the country that knows all about snow/frost/ice on the windshield perhaps someone in NZ could obtain the franchise to distribute products like these.

Warehouse sell some good looking full cover silver fabric covers for $45, roughly the same cost as two miniature cans here. I may well be investing.

I'm actually looking forward to not digging my car out the drive and having to start it 15 minutes before work for the first winter ever! Although I do miss that our Fords here don't have the heated windscreen, handiest thing ever!

I saw the sunrise today, not from the car, but whilst waiting for the kettle to boil. Just beautiful

Not wise putting boiling water onto a cold windscreen. It will crack for sure. Also, even if you got away without cracking the windscreen the hot water will freeze very quickly, meaning you'd probably have to do it again.
De-ice with lukewarm water out of the tap or kettle if you've not any de-icer. Lukewarm water will still melt the frost but will give you more time to wipe it away before it freezes.
You must have a Ford or a Jag ?
Heated front screen was an idea Ford thought up around 15 years ago on the Mondeo. Had one as a company car. The heated front screen was awesome.

One morning of a completely iced up car two weeks ago gave me the impetus to clear out the garage So some good came of it!
On a clear day I can see Ruapehu on the way to work, I always love those days. Unfortunately they have been few and far between recently.
