I bought a top loader.

I bought a top loader.
It's early days yet but so far we are getting along ok. My top loader observations are that a 'soak' button is a very good thing as I think detergents need some time to do their thing. Towels get a bit stripped but I like towels crispy (no fabric softener for towels here), so this is ok. I put anything remotely delicate in washing bags and we seem to have the tentative beginnings of a friendship. This is probably my biggest 'thing I would never have done in the UK' on the domestic front.
Anyone else out there made the switch? I had to because of the very awkward washer gap in the rental.

Hmm. Not going to happen. I cannot see how a top load is better than a front load? Cheaper, sure, but not better.

Re: I bought a top loader.
My hand was forced so I am having to look on the bright side. This one has various functions that raise it above the average motel/laundrette one, but I am never going to be flying the flag for a top loader. The 'work' of laundring clothes is increased with them as you have to really treat all stains and smudges, you need more refined clothes seperation (no throwing a towel in with the rest of the wash), and you need to mess about disolving and diluting the laundry powder/ liquid. I would not put anything delicate in there. But it was very easy to lift and manouvre, so that's a plus if you're renting.

I have a magic wicker basket as long as I get my clothes within 6 feet of it the basket picks them up, washes them and sticks them in a drawer. I,m not sure where you get them from Jan bought ours

I like my top loader, don't find it any different to the front loaders I had at home as far as wash quality goes. Not sure what you mean by dissolving/diluting laundry powder though, I've never done this in the 3 different top loaders Ive had?

I am a fastidious manual reader It's what it said to do in the manual (to ensure the powder dissolves properly, especially important for cold washes, though I don't do cold washes), so I just do it I dilute the fabric softener, too.

I have a picture of a man kneeling on the banks of the Waimakirir with a pile of dirty motorcycle clothing and two stones scrubbing furiously....

Why did I assume this thread was about a top loader VHS player?

Re: I bought a top loader.
I've found liquid detergents to be the best. My top loader seems to be a delicate little flower - too much powder leads to powder streaked clothes and not enough did the same. Fed up with trying to get the balance right I switched to liquid and the results are much better. The OH is now no longer going to work in a black shirt with a huge powder streak across the back

Re: I bought a top loader.
Likewise we switched to Cold Power liquid as the powders need dissolving first on cold washes, just like BB pointed out

Hmm, my manual says nothing about that and I always just chuck the powder in (and wash everything on a cold wash)
