Default how are people getting jobs

in the UK for employment in NZ
over the last couple of days I have seen quite a few people saying they have been offered jobs in NZ and are now starting the process. We have submitted our EOI with 120 points and in the LTSSL, Industry is IT. Have submitted my CV to many agencies in NZ but as yet even though a lot of good chatter and saying they where putting me forward for jobs not one of them has come back with any feedback as to how the CV was received or asking if I can get out for interviews. Any advice will be gratefully recvd

I'm not sure how relevant my experience will be, as did it a slightly different way but....

I visited NZ a couple of years ago and whilst there met up with a team in Christchurch who do the same (quite specialised) work that i do in the UK. Then a couple of months ago someone told me they were hoping to go to Christchurch for a few years, i mentioned the team to them and when i looked on their website they were recruiting. To cut a very long story short the manager remembered me, and asked me to send my CV (even though i wasnt really looking for a job). They eventually interviewed me for a different job that came up (in dunedin), by phone, 3 people their end, and it lasted about an hour and 20 mins. They told my friend when she enquired that the main reason they decided to take a chance on me was because one of the interviewing panel had met me and could put a face to the name. They have told her to contact them when she gets out there.

So i think the main things is to show you are serious, they get lots of people inquiring from overseas and most of them never make it to NZ. They need to be sure you will before they offer you a job I think. In my interview they really grilled me to make sure I was serious. They asked how i would cope with the move, how i would settle, how i would find the different culture etc. I had to show that I had considered all that and still wanted to work in NZ.

Good luck with the job hunt!!!

I agree with 'rachmac', if you don't show them that you are serious they won't be much interested.

I came here on honeymoon last year and fell in love with the place. My husband and I decided we'd give it a go. We learned that the only way we could was if I got offered a job first.

We started the process anyway. I emailed as many people as I could thing of, with my story and my cv, explaining that I wanted to be here by March (this was last October) also said that I would come out on 12 month working visa if necessary.

I got chatting with the owner of a company via email, who is mainly based in Texas, but the company was set up here and still runs here. We arranged that I would go to Texas for an interview in January (that's the showing you're serious part!) and voila, the job was mine. I stayed with them for a few days, had an interview over lunch and flew home happy

I then came out here on 11th March, so my plan worked out.

Emailing initially worked for me, I am a sportswear designer so I 'googled' and emailed everyone I could find. I had a very positive response which surprised me...

Not sure how helpful that will be, but might nudge you in the right direction?!

Happy Hunting!

Forget agencies, recruitment consultants in NZ appear to be just as useless as the UK.

Do your research, you must have an idea about who you want to work for already, get in touch direct and prove that your research extends beyond the company website!

Try seek.co.nz

Good luck!

The only way is to be persistent. Don't sit back and wait for the offers to come flooding in, chase the agencies as I found they do work for you if you show them that you are serious about coming over here.

There are so many people that think it sounds good to move to NZ then send details over waiting to be snapped up because they are UK based in the IT world - it just won't happen. Lots of jobs are not advertised but they do go through agencies or just word of mouth so if you are serious about coming to NZ get in peoples minds.
