My Aussie friends use talc too. I tried that in my kitchen and it didn't stop the winter ants here in UK.
I use ant powder around the back door and under sink and at last they've all gone.

also try a margerine tub lid, smear it with honey leave out in the garden somewhere. the theory is they are attracted to the honey and get stuck in it. could also try it in a jam jar.

Thanks guys for all the help, they seemto have all gone now...Seems like they all come inside to get away from the storm that was coming???
