Hello and a big welcome to the New Zealand section of BE from the Consierges in Spain.
You will find excellent information in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.
BE Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font. Also there are Consierges who can support and guide you.
Please contact me if I can give you any further help.
Rosemary

Seriously though, how far along are you on your plans to come to NZ? Please feel free to ask any questions you have no matter how silly or unimportant they may seem. The majority of us have been there & got the T-shirt. Happy posting

Hi & welcome to our NZ forums. I can't blame you for wanting to get out of Yorkshire though, have you tried the M62? Heads to a great place called Lancashire (guess where I'm from).

Re: Hi
Sorry bout the delay, I travel on the dreaded m62 many times, usually at snails pace bumper to bumper with all other cars....

Congratulations on the job offers. Feel free to ask away on the main forum about the pros & cons of living in Auckland/ChCh. Though I'm sure you'll have read a fair bit already.
OH has lived in both & prefers Auckland (and that was pre-earthquake). But we all have different requirements. Good luck

Re: Hi
Nice work on the job offers...good luck on the decision! As others have said there is a fair bit of dialogue on this...our experience was moving to Christchurch initially, but then relocating to Auckland after the February earthquake Christchurch is an awesome place, but from our perspective is a fair bit different to where it was two years ago when we moved there...plus my wife is not a huge fan of the ground shaking. Either way, potentiall a strategy is to rent for a bit to get a feel for wherever you end up...at least you have more flexibility in moving if you so desire (we bought when we arrived...seemed a good idea at the time although not in hindsight!)

Re: Hi
Hi, my Oh and I moved to chch with our 3 kids last november. It's a great city despite what it's been through, the ground shaking is just another aspect of living here, most of the time the kids don't even feel them. As for traveling on the M62, my OH used to do that, spent a lifetime sat in traffic...his commute now is 4 mins by car or 20 mins by bike...he can even get home for lunch if he wants...good luck with your visa applications and such like...it's a great life out here...
